Self Portrait

I took this picture of myself while looking up. I wanted to emphasize myself as the main subject. I wanted to show space because I was taking the picture from a lower angle rather than at point blank. I like the line of my clothes and how they go up to my face. I like this picture because it’s just a formal portrait, no distractions but the person. All of the emphasis is on the person, in this case me. You can also see the texture of my jacket and sweatshirt in this picture. I really just wanted to take a relaxed picture, I just said “this is me”, and just took the picture and this is the result.

Enviornmental Portrait

I took this picture of a teacher helping a student before the school hours, working on problems. I asked them for a picture and they stopped what they were doing and helped me. I thought this would be a good environmental portrait because it shows students and teachers helping one another. I like the negative space in the background because it shows the room and how big it feels. I also like the balance in the photo; the two women balance each other out nicely. There are lines that are made from the desks pointing toward the camera.

Candid Portrait (Mercy Girls)

This picture was of two Mercy girls dissecting a pig in a biology class. I really like this picture because I asked them to take a picture but instead of looking at the camera, they just continued to go about their business rather than turning toward the camera. I like the negative space in this picture, along with the emphasis on the two girls working diligently. There is an indirect line from their eyes to their experiment, which gives off a line in the picture. There is space in the background; you can feel the distance of the room as it goes back (another line) and leading to the other students doing their experiment. The two students are the emphasis of this picture emphasizing them which makes this a candid portrait.

Scanner Art

In my scanner art, I took a towel of Holiday Inn, a Jumpman symbol, a cross-country medal, and an iPhone cover to make kind of a collage of myself. I used the Holiday Inn because it has a baseball symbol on it and baseball is huge in my life and also traveling and staying at places such as the Holiday Inn. The Jumpman symbol of the Jordan company is special because sports in general and idols are huge in my life because I grew up playing them. I took a picture of one of my medals in cross-country because it shows how far I could accomplish something. The iPhone cover to me was how much technology we as people rely on, so I took it because I love how technology works and am intrigued by it.

Shutter Photo

I took this picture from my house one day. I took it playing around with the different settings that you could choose from. I like this picture because I has a great sense of depth of field and I like looking out into the bay from my house. I like how there is a line from the street going downward, and a line of trees going down the street. I like how there is balance with the roofs of the houses with the street and the trees on the street. There is a lot of negative space here, looking out into the streets to the city near the bay. Besides the obvious line of the street going down the hill, there is a line formed by the trees leading out to the city and into the bay.

Ansel Adams Nature Photography

I used this photo compared to Ansel Adam’s photo of his endless road. I tried to mimic his photo give that feeling of an endless stretching road. I took this picture in San Francisco on a dirt trail which lead down to Golden Gate Park. I liked the space, and the line in this photo because the space showed a good depth of field and gave the feeling of being alone. I liked the line of the trail leading into an endless trail just how Ansel Adam’s photo was formatted. I wanted to emphasize the trail and how endless it felt when just looking down it. There are many lines that the branches create along with the line of the trail. The lines create shapes within the branches which give this picture a different feel to it.

Principle of Design

I took this picture in my backyard; I really liked the variety of the two flowers that balance each other out nicely. I took this picture with the idea of space, and color from the elements of design. I liked the negative space in the background along with the colors of the white flower and the purple one. I liked the emphasis on the flowers in the picture along with the color and space. There is a ton of colors in this picture, there is the purple and white flower along with the green bushes in the background. There is a lot of negative space in the background with the sun’s light in the background
